Storytime!

So. I was assigned the very un-me task of storytelling plus craft for the kids' program last Saturday (Its part of my job). I basically wrote 2 stories and came up with paper plate craft (A turkey). Right now I'm going to sit on my rickety old rocking chair and share my 2nd story (more like script) with you since the 1st story was heavily inspired from the Geronimo Stilton series and I don't want to cower in fear from Geronimo's creators.

Now, I want you to do something for Grandma. Whenever I say "moon cake" I want you to form a circle with your hands. That's your moon cake. Next I'd like you to pretend its the best moon cake ever and take a huge bite out of your moon cake, hear?

Ok, here we go:

Jimmy and the Moon cake

- Jimmy’s favorite time of the year wasn’t Christmas, or New Year’s Day. It was the mid-autumn festival. His favorite food was, of course, moon cakes.
- Now Jimmy had a bad habit of stuffing his face full with the food that he loved. He would stuff his face till he looked like a squirrel.
- When the mid-autumn festival arrived, Jimmy’s friends wouldn’t dare to share their moon cakes with him as they were afraid that he’d eat them all.
- Jimmy was greedy for more moon cakes, so when his friends were not looking, he blew out the candle that was in his lantern, took some of their moon cakes and hid them in his lantern! What a sneaky little boy!
- When he got home, Jimmy started to enjoy the stolen moon cakes. Munch munch munch, he happily took bite after bite. When he had finished all of them, Jimmy went to sleep.
- The next day Jimmy woke up to find himself not on his bed. That’s weird, it was dark all around, his face felt big and round and Jimmy couldn’t feel his hands and feet. He got an even bigger scare when he looked down.
- All he could see were little houses and tiny people walking about! Jimmy was afraid of heights and began to cry. He didn’t understand why this was happening to him.
- At that moment, a little fairy appeared next to him.
- “Hello Jimmy, do you know why your face is so swollen, you can’t feel your hands or legs, and why you’re so high up in a dark sky?”
- Jimmy shook his head. “I’m afraid of heights; please let me down from this dark sky!”
- The fairy then explained to Jimmy that he was a moon cake guardian, sent to make sure that every child enjoys his or her moon cake every mid-autumn festival.
- Since Jimmy was greedy and stole is friends’ moon cakes, his punishment was…turning into a moon! No wonder he was high up in the sky with a big round face and had no hands or legs.
- At that moment, Jimmy realized that what he did was very wrong, and apologized to the moon cake guardian. He promised not to steal anything from his friends again, and made a decision to apologize to his friends when he saw them. The guardian then tapped Jimmy’s moon-head 3 times and vanished. Poof!
- Jimmy started to yawn. He closed his eyes and went to sleep among the clouds in the night sky.
- The very next day, Jimmy’s woke up and slowly looked around. Phew! Everything was back to normal, he was in his bed, his face wasn’t big and round, and he had his hands and legs back! After giving himself a big hug, Jimmy set off to buy moon cakes for those friends whom he had stolen from. Today was going to be a good day, he could feel it!
