prop 8?
Searched for that wiki project to no avail. I can't find it on the statutes site! I must be blind or something.
Anyway, from what I know, Cali's prop 8 passed. I know i always prided myself on my unbiasness (major spelling error), but this time i don't know what to feel or how to react. So yea I think I'm numb. Oh crud please don't let it be teenage apathy- that would officially embellish the fact that I've entered suckzone.
I'm just glad im not living in cali right now. wouldn't know how to vote. Yes on my beliefs, or No to hate?
I know that based on where I come from, we need to nip "bad"stuff right in the bud, never compromise your values blahblahblah. But I also know we speak up against discrimination. And prop 8 just sounds slightly discriminative to me. I know we are all for spreading love and kindness, and letting God change You. So even if you were ''born with it" , you will be able to change cuz you'll have the strength to change.
But in my opinion, allowing prop 8 to pass right now just fails to show our love and good intentions. If you want to stop "bad habits/social diseases", I believe we need to show our love 1st. And that means granting equal rights. Maybe, just maybe, after everyone settles down and is happy that everyone has equal opportunities and rights, they'll believe us when we spread our message of love. Cuz that message has major stuff that might piss them off. Now that prop 8 passed, who's gonna believe when we say "repent or die" ? We can butter the words up, but that's sorta the essential message beneath it all where it concerns the investors of prop 8.
I believe that prop 8 was the golden opportunity to show our love and acceptance. Ah, maybe next time. It doesn't affect us if prop 8 failed, and it isn't much of our business anyway. Lets hope Barack does some stuff in the future. He said he's personally against prop 8 although he's sorta in my position. haha, i've got a perfectly eloquent speaker on my side! He'll probably express most stuff I feel correctly. I think.
The day I draw the line is when they'll promote the alternative lifestyle to schools. Cuz it'll be lopsided then. And I'm all for being equal. If the left side has 5 apples, so will the right. It won't be fair if the left has 5 and a half, and the right still has just 5. I think promotion will be that extra half.
I just think the way to show what we stand up for isn't by showing discrimination. Who's gonna believe you when you say "God loves you" while they're being oppressed? You don't shun or ridicule the "mavericks", you build relationships with them- that's how they'll understand you. I know there're people out there who'll never feel like society is treating them equally, but if prop 8 was overturned, and more "fair measures"were implemented, I think slightly more people would be willing to listen to our message of love and peace then. This isn't an addiction; going "cold turkey" isn't to make it go away. You're going to stir up a revolt instead. You just don't force someone to follow your beliefs by punishing them for not believing in yours.
Perhaps prop 8 could've been handled in a better manner. I saw this interview on youtube today, where this super skinny, uptight-looking old lady was for prop 8. She looked so hostile, I could just see the disgust in her eyes. Eww. And the way the interview went, it seemed she just gave off the wrong impression about her belief and values. They were good reasonable values, but I think people are gonna hate them cuz of the way she presented it.
There should be a new invention: Liquid Obama. Where we inject ourselves with it and we'll be eloquent and non-hostile/bitchy-seeming when we speak. The goodness of our ideas will just overflow and nobody will assume you're a hater. YAY. I kinda believe there's a lil good-man inside all of us.
Major mojo rantings of a highly unstable Lovegood.
